Chelsea will be without Ramires for their visit of Liverpool on Sunday
The energetic Brazilian picked up his fifth booking of the campaign in their 1-0 win against Swansea City on Boxing Day.
Frank Lampard is expected to deputise for the former Benfica midfielder.
Jose Mourinho could rotate his options as the Blues play their third game in six days, and Fernando Torres may feature against his former club after the Portuguese boss declared himself "tired" of his mis-firing strikers after the Swansea game.
"They kill me," said Mourinho. "Every game I am tired in the end."
Provisional squad: Cech, Ivanovic, Cole, Luiz, Essien, Lampard, Torres, Mata, Oscar, Mikel, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Hazard, Ba, Willian, Schwarzer, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Eto'o, Blackman, Bertrand.
